Accreditation of the new Slovak Defence Attache to Lithuania

On 26 April, accreditation of the new Slovak Defence AttachĆ© to Lithuania Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Macko was held at the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence in Vilnius. Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Gediminas Kirkilas awarded the outgoing Slovak Defence Attache Lieutenant Colonel Jan Horeličan the National Defence System level decoration -- Medal For Merits – in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening bilateral co-operation between the Lithuanian and Slovak Armed Forces.

 

Lieutenant Colonel I. Macko was appointed as Slovak Defence Attache Assistant in 1997. Prior to the present appointment I. Macko served in the Slovak Ministry of Defence.

 

Lithuania and Slovakia signed a military co-operation agreement in the beginning of 2002. Today the most important issue in the agenda of the bilateral co-operation – establishment of the joint Polish, German, Slovak, Lithuanian and Latvian European Union's Battle Group. The Polish-led battle group is expected to be come operational after the year 2008.

 

The Slovak Defence Attache resides in Riga, Latvia.
