The Secretary of the Ministry of Defence J.Raguckiene is to visit the Naval Defense and Maritime Exhibition and Conference in France

imgThe Secretary of the Ministry of Defence at interim Jurate Raguckiene and the Admiral of the Navy Kestutis Macijauskas will visit the Naval Defense and Maritime Exhibition and Conference ”EURONAVAL 2006" in Paris, France. They will also go to the Naval Base of France in Toulon to see the Navy ships, discover their functions and characteristics.

The phase of collective training in the ”Maple Arch" exercise

imgThe collective training session of the multinational exercise ”Maple Arch" staged in the Training Regiment of Rukla began on October 19. The exercise participants from Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine headed by the Canadian instructors will have to pursue tasks in groups following the scenarios that imitate possible turns of peace-keeping missions. "Exercise Maple Arch is now moving on to the next phase," said Canadian Contingent Commander Major Paul Lockhart. "With the individual skills training complete, we are moving on to scenario training where multiple skills will be used at the same time. As we progress we will continue to challenge the soldiers by increasing both the complexity and the tempo of the scenarios."

Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania R.Norkus to take part in NATO Defence Political Directors meeting

The Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Renatas Norkus will participate in an Informal NATO Directors of Defence Policy meeting in Spain. The representatives of the countries plan to consider the questions that are to be discussed in the NATO Summit meeting in Riga on November 28 -29: Strategic Airlift, NATO Response Force, NATO Forces in Kosovo and Afghanistan. The major attention will be paid to the new NATO Partnership Policy: cooperation with the new partners - Japan, Austria, New Zeeland - in fighting international terrorism, and developing relations with traditionally neutral countries - Finland and Sweden

The Armaments Director of the European Defence Agency to visit Lithuania

The officers of the National Defence Ministry and Security Staff will meet the Director of the Armaments Directorate of the European Defence Agency Carlo Magrassi on a working visit on October 20. The Defence Reform of Lithuania will be introduced to the guest along with Acquisition Policy and Armament Program, while he introduces the European Defence Agency priorities in the field of armaments. The reception ceremony agenda includes discussion on cooperation projects and armament programs as well as on NATO and European Union Armament Policy.

The Commander of Armed Forces visit Romania

imgYesterday, October 18, the Commander of Lithuania's Armed Forces General Major Valdas Tutkus began his official three-day visit to Romania. After the official reception ceremony in the courtyard of the Ministry of National Defence the Gen. Maj. V.Tutkus met the Commander of Romania's Armed Forces Vice-Admiral Gheorghe Marin and the officials of the Ministry of National Defence of Romania.

NATO Intelligence Fusion Center opened

NATO Intelligence Fusion Center was opened in the Royal Air Force of Britain Molesworth Base in the County of Cambridge on October 16. The Center will provide Intelligence support for NATO-led operations, all the NATO member states are invited to participate in the activity. A total of approximately 160 people from member states is planned to be the operating personnel of the Center.

General of the Multinational Force of Iraq honored Lithuanian troops with a visit

imgMaj-Gen Alessandro Montuori, the Deputy-Commanding General of the Multi-National Corps Iraq (MNC-I), went to a military camp in the vicinity of Basra to visit the Lithuanian contingent LITCON-8 soldiers serving in the Danish Division on October 9. The General thanked the Lithuanian troops for their input in improving the security situation in the South of the war-torn country.

An arrangement for the joint Baltic States Airspace Control and Reporting Center (CRC) deployment in Karmelava made

The meeting of the Commanders of Baltic States Armed Forces was closed on October 13 in Vilnius. The Commander of Lithuania's Army General Major Valdas Tutkus , the Commander of Latvia's Army Brigadier General Juris Maklakovs, the Commander of Estonia's Army Vice-Admiral Tarmo Kouts, and the delegations of the countries have agreed upon the deployment of the first Airspace Control and Reporting Center in the history of the region. The center will enhance the control of the Baltic States Airspace and in the case of necessity it will be able to send instructions to the allies' fighters on watch in the NATO sanctioned Air police mission.

imgThe conference of the Baltic States Commanders of Armed Forces will take place in Vilnius from September 11 to 13. The three-day conference schedule includes the Commander of Lithuanian Armed Forces Major General Valdas Tutkus, the Commander of Latvian Armed Forces Brigadier General Juris Maklakovs, and the Commander of Estonian Armed Force Vice-Admiral Tarmo Kouts together with delegations from the countries discussing the common contribution to NATO operations, Air Police mission, and the point of the Baltic States Airspace Control enhancement.

120 nautical miles of the Baltic Sea bottom explored during the ”Amber Sea" naval exercise

The naval phase of the multinational exercise ”Amber Sea 2006" was completed on October 6. It resulted in 35 objects location, all of them complying with mine or demolition characteristics. Due to harsh weather conditions only 3 of the objects, i.e. two mines and one land-land missile with its warhead and part of the engine missing were identified visually. Detailed identification and data collection on the remaining objects is postponed until the weather calms. A total of 120 nautical miles (200 sq. km.) was explored in Lithuanian territorial waters and exclusive economic zone.
