A helping hand from Lithuanian and Afghan soldiers for snow avalanche victims in Morghabi valley

Last week troops of Lithuanian led Provincial Reconstruction Team for Ghowr joined their efforts with members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) to aid inhabitants of Morghabi valley in coping with ravage of snow avalanche. 13 people were killed, 13 injured, and 20 houses buried by a slump of snow.

The Ghowr PRT (PRT-4) provided fuel for the ANA helicopters coming from Kabul to Chaghcharan loaded with humanitarian aid necessities for the victims.

Members of PRT-4 and provincial government - Governor of Ghowr Shah Abdul Ahad Afzali, Head of National Police General Shah Jahad Naserulah Noori and PRT-4 Staff Commander Colonel Lieutenant Eligijus Senulis with Croatian Staff Officer Captain Vanja Bošnakovski - also visited the distressed area.

Helicopters landed in a mountain ravine settlement and the officials reached their destination on horses. Villages of Jindako and Roatie settled in mountains are hard to access even by air and of spring season weather changes cause great danger of snow avalanche.

Inhabitants of Jindako and Raotie villages received a 3-ton cargo of humanitarian aid which included tents, covers, warm clothes, shoes, medicaments, and other necessities collected by the Afghanistan Red Crescent organisation.

According to Col. Lieut. E. Senulis, inhabitants of the valley were grateful for the immediate help they had received and really proud of their provincial government for effectively providing support by joint efforts of PRT and ANA.
