National Defence Minister will make his first official visit to Moldova


May 29 will be the first time National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas will go on an official visit to Moldova.


The Kishinev visit schedule includes meetings with the Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, Speaker of the Parliament Marian Lup, Defence Minister Valeri Pesca, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrej Stratan.


The meetings will address Euro-atlantic integration of Moldova, security situation in the region, relations with the neighbouring nations, perspectives of bilateral military cooperation, and information exchange on participation in international operations.


Visit of National Defence Minister J.Olekas and his delegation is a sign of increased defence cooperation of Lithuania and Moldova. The first Lithuanian defence attaché Colonel Lieutenant Virginijus Vilkelis was accredited to Moldova, Moldovan Defence Minister Valeri Pesca came on an official visit to Lithuania and signed an agreement on defence cooperation last year.


Lithuania provides consultations for Moldova on defence reforms and public relations, invites Moldovan officers to educational seminars organised in Lithuania as well as to international courses at General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian War Academy and Moldovan observers to military exercises.
