Baltic Air policing mission transferred to Norway


Ceremony of change of military units on the NATO Baltic Air policing mission will take place at Siauliai Aviation Base of Lithuanian Armed Forces on December 14. Soldiers of Portugal currently on mission in Lithuania will be replaced by the Norwegian Royal Air Force soldiers.


It is the second time Norwegian Royal Air Force soldiers will be responsible for the NATO Baltic Air policing mission. The first time Norwegian soldiers were deployed to Lithuania was in 2005.


Ceremony of change at Siauliai Aviation Base will be attended by the National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway in Lithuania Steinar Gil, representative of Embassy of Portugal, leadership of Lithuanian Armed Forces and Aviation Base, representatives of Portuguese and Norwegian air forces, representatives of Siauliai town and county, and other guests.


60 soldiers of Norway will guard Baltic airspace by four F-16 fighters.


After three months the mission will be taken over by the Polish Air Force.
