Concluding field exercise before deployment to Afghanistan

PRT-7 soldiers to be deployed to Afghanistan within a short period underwent the concluding pre-mission field exercise in Kairiai Military Ground in Klaipeda region, April 14-18.

PRT-7 members spent five days in conditions they would find in Afghanistan, in a camp ad hoc installed in Kairiai Military Ground. Soldiers imitated mission activities in a fictitious provincial town Greenland: they were meeting alleged provincial governor, representatives of local administration, friendly or hostile local residents, media representatives from Greenland and other provinces. The exercise is outstanding by its 24-hour span drawing the assumed conditions closer to the real mission. Exercise situations were designed and performance of participants assessed by the Land Force Staff and NDVF soldiers. As finalising stroke, assessors of each sphere delivered their positive and negative remarks about the participants' performance.

PRT-7 is formed around the core of about 140 Grand Duchess Birute Motorised Infantry Battalion soldiers. Lithuanian members of PRT-7 in Afghanistan will be accompanied by Danish, Georgian, American, Croatian and Ukrainian members.

On April 22 PRT-7 will attend solemn deployment ceremony in Alytus, they will depart for Afghanistan by the end of the month.
