Baltic Chiefs of Defence meet in Riga

On April 15 traditional two-day meeting of Chiefs of Defence of the Baltic States begins. Chief of Defence Staff of Lithuania, acting Chief of Defence, Adm.(R) Kestutis Macijauskas will represent Lithuania. He will meet with Chief of Defence of Latvia Gen. Maj. Juris Maklakovs and Chief of Defence of Estonia Lt. Gen. Ants Laaneots to discuss current issues of defence policy and trilateral cooperation projects.

Peace Flag raised in front of the Ministry of National Defence

imgPeace Flag will be raised in the square of the Ministry o National Defence to mark the 55th anniversary of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, April 15. Peace Flag – three red circles girded with a red ring against a white background – is the symbol of the international Roerich Pact signed in Washington on 15 April 1935 on protection of artistic and scientific institutions and historic monuments in peace and wartime. Principles of Roerich (Washington) Pact were later transferred into the convention signed in the on 14 May 1954 regarding protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict.

Easter holiday in Afghanistan

imgApril 12, Easter morning, Commander PRT-8 wished happy holiday, good health and successful completion of the mission for members of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team gathered in the camp's club for a family Easter breakfast after celebration of Easter mass at the camp's chapel. After breakfast soldiers were invited to play traditional Easter game – bowling coloured eggs.

KFOR-20 took over mission in Kosovo

imgApril 9, rotation ceremony of NATO Kosovo Force took place in Ferizaj, Kosovo. The leaving nineteenth rotation of Lithuanian-led KFOR was replaced by KFOR-20 – the last rotation Lithuania plans to deploy to Kosovo. In the ceremony Commander Multinational Task Force East Brig. Gen. Keith D. Jones farewelled KFOR-19 wishing them success in further careers, certificates of appreciation of Lt. Col. Mariusz Galeziowski, Commander of POLUKRBAT, were given to the most distinguished members of KFOR-19.

Danish soldiers wished happy Easter to kids of children's home

imgApril 9, Royal Danish Air Force Contingent conducting NATO Baltic Air-policing mission and their colleagues from Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base visited patients of interrupted development children's home in Siauliai District. The guests presented young patients with toys and even two aircraft pallets of diapers.

Role of the Battle of Bluewater in the Ukrainian-Lithuanian history discussed in Ukraine

imgApril 7, National Defence Academy of Ukraine (Kiev) hosted a round-table discussion on the role of the Battle of Bluewater (an army made up of Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian divisions and led by Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas beat Tartars in 1362) in the history of Lithuania and Ukraine. One of participants of the discussion was Defence Attaché of Lithuania in Ukraine Col. Sigitas Butkus.

Problems of provincial departments and perspectives of provincial development discussed in Chaghcharan

imgApril 4, CIMIC Department of PRT-8 organised a meeting with directors of departments of the province. Representatives of 15 driving departments of Ghowr were present in the meeting. In the meeting members of PRT military unit and the Special Mission of the Republic of Lithuania represented activities of Chaghcharan PRT and projects financed, developed and completed by Lithuania in the province. Later participants of the meeting proceeded to projects that yet could be launched in the province, and discussed problems encountered by provincial departments.

NATO hold one-day training event above the Baltic States to enhance coordination and ensure sovereignty of the Baltic airspace
