April 7, National Defence Academy of Ukraine (Kiev) hosted a round-table discussion on the role of the Battle of Bluewater (an army made up of Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian divisions and led by Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas beat Tartars in 1362) in the history of Lithuania and Ukraine. One of participants of the discussion was Defence Attaché of Lithuania in Ukraine Col. Sigitas Butkus.

Announcements were read by renowned historians of Lithuania and Ukraine – Prof. Alfredas Bumblauskas, Prof. Feliksas Sabuldo, Senior Research Associate Olena Rusina of the Institute of Ukrainian History of the National Academy of Sciences, Docent of the National Defence Academy Department of History Col. Ighor Sokal.

Participants of the event were welcomed by Defence Minister of Ukraine Jurij Jechanurov and Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine Algirdas Kumza.

Participants of the round-table discussion agreed that it is very important to restore the couple of centuries of ”Lithuanian” period of the history of Ukraine and to join efforts in cherishing the several-centuries old historical heritage of the region of Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus.
