Four MiG-29s of the Polish Air Force landed in Šiauliai 2015.01.08
![]() On January 8 four MiG-29 fighters of the Polish Air Force landed at the Lithuanian Air Force Base at Šiauliai to join the Baltic Air Policing Mission. The Polish contribution will reinforce the mission carried out by an Italian air contingent.
The new Poland’s contingent arrived arrived from their permanent base at the 23rd Tactical Minsk-Mazowiecki Air Base, Poland. The over 100-strong contingent is manned according to a model similar to the Italian contingent to include pilots, engineers, medical personnel, provision elements, specialists of communications and other areas. |

On 31 December at the a ceremony, held at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai , the key for the Baltic airspace was handed over from the Portuguese Air Force to the Italian counterparts. Since 1 January Italy will be the lead nation of the NATO Air Policing Mission over the Baltic States, reinforced by Poland. |

For the first time Italian Air Force fighters landed in Šiauliai Air Base, a rotation ceremony to be held 2014.12.29
![]() On 28 of December four Italian Air Force fighters “Eurofighter Typhoon” have landed in the Lithuanian Air Force Air Base in Šiauliai. From the 1st of January they will take part in the NATO Air Policing mission in the Baltic States. This will be the first time when Italian troops are deployed in this NATO mission in Lithuania. |

In 2015 Lithuania will participate in six multinational operations and missions 2014.12.29
![]() Lithuania, as an active member of international community - NATO, the European Union, the United Nations – next year is planning to participate in six multinational operations and missions, about 100 Lithuanian troops will be deployed abroad. Lithuanian military personnel will serve in NATO operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Turkey, the EU training mission in Mali, counter-piracy operation in Somalia, and the UN mission in Afghanistan. In 2014, after NATO will complete one of the biggest multinational operations - the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission - number of Lithuanian troops participating in multinational operations in Afghanistan will be gradually decreasing. |

![]() On 15-21 December NATO Air Policing fighters took off once. Reconnaissance aircraft IL-20 of Russian Federation was intercepted over the Baltic sea neutral waters near the Baltic states’ borders. The aircraft flew according to pre-arranged plan with its transponder turned off. |

The first part of GROM to reach Lithuanian Armed Forces 2014.12.22
![]() At the end of December the first short-range MANPADs GROM shipment reached the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Lithuania has procured from the Polish company MESKO S.A.
"We are pleased that Lithuanian Armed Forces’ modernisation is progressing well. Short-range MANPADs GROM will meet the urgent operational needs of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and will particularly reinforce the defence Lithuanian Armed Forces units and objects from air attacks. Procurement of the short-range MANPADS is one of the top priorities in equipping the Lithuanian Armed Forces "- Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas says. |

Six modern fighter aircraft shelters fitted up in Šiauliai in support of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission 2014.12.18
![]() As the project of aircraft shelters for air assets of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission was completed at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai six modern mobile fighter aircraft shelters were installed: three have undergone a fundamental renovation and three – new.
“The shelters will not only protect fighter jets from meteorological conditions but will also provide a facility for technical personnel to carry out operational maintenance of aircraft and weaponry in cases of low temperature,” commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Base Lieutenant Colonel Vidmantas Raklevičius said. |

![]() Upon completion of the active deployment phase with NATO Response Force, Lithuanian Naval Ship LNS Jotvingis, a flag ship of Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group One (SNMCMG1), returned to Klaipėda, Lithuania, on 17 December. Lithuanian Navy Officer Commander Giedrius Premeneckas will continue to command SNMCMG1 from this ship up to the end of January 2015.
“When we started our deployment this summer, we had eight ships from Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Poland which were already trained to really high standards. The key mission ahead of us was to integrate them into SNMCMG1 and make a group both coherent and efficient team able to cope with any challenges whenever and wherever they arise. Today, I can say with a full confidence that we have succeeded in our mission of making SNMCMG1 group truly coherent, Cmdr. G. Premeneckas says. |

![]() New rotation of military personnel of the U.S. Army deployed in Lithuania for combined training with our forces shifted in mid-December. The company of the 1st Cavalry Division, U.S. Army, which had been deployed since October, was replaced by soldiers from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army. The new rotation deployed in Poland and the Baltic States from its home base in Vilseck, Germany. |
