Lithuanian officer assigned to the NATO's Joint Training and Evaluation Centre in Georgia


Lithuanian officer Lieutenant Colonel Renatas Chrimlis will begin service at the NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Centre (JTEC) opened in Tbilisi, Georgia, on August 27.


Establishment of the Joint Training and Evaluation Centre is part of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package agreed to at the NATO Summit in Wales last year.


The objectives of the Joint Training and Evaluation Centre is to identify priorities of military training in the Georgian Armed Forces, to evaluate readiness of military units to deploy to multinational operations, their compliance with NATO procedures, etc.


International staff of this Centre is provided by the Nordic countries and the Baltic states, including a Lithuanian officer. The composition of JTEC staff reflects well the intense cooperation with Georgia developed under the Nordic-Baltic support initiative so as to enhance and strengthen Georgia’s defence sector.


Lithuania’s delegate LTC R. Chrimlis graduated from the Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course and the Ranger School course at the U.S. Army Infantry School, he also carried out traineeships at the U.S. Defence Resources Management Institute, Baltic Defence College in Estonia, and higher education institutions of Lithuania. The officer conducted service at the NATO Command Transformation Norfolk (U.S.), was in command of the Lithuanian Training Regiment in 2007-2012, and held other positions.


Lithuania supports closer NATO’s cooperation with Georgia and contributes to the assistance to the reforms of Georgia’s defence and security sector and is prepared to delegate representatives of its armed forces to military exercises held at the Joint Training and Evaluation.
