Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on September 17 - 23, 2018

On September 17-23 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled three times to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On September 17 NATO fighters intercepted one AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad Oblast to mainland Russia. The crew did not have a pre-filed flight plan, maintained radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre, and used the onboard transponder.

 

On September 17 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted on IL-20 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad without the flight plan, with its onboard transponder switched off, and without keeping radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.

 

On September 20 NATO fighters intercepted one AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad Oblast to mainland Russia without the pre-filed flight plan, but keeping radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre, and with the onboard transponder on.
