Members of Parliament of Romania paid a visit to the Ministry of National Defence


On September 18 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis met with a delegation of the Committee for Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania.


“Lithuania and Romania share the assessment of the security situation in the region and of the gravity of threats coming from Russia, therefore the most important tasks of our countries remains to be the development of national defence capabilities, strengthening Alliance deterrence and defence , and ability to respond to modern-day security challenges in the eastern part of the Alliance,” Minister R. Karoblis said at the meeting at the Ministry of National Defence.


Lithuania and Romania began defence cooperation in 1998 with a signature of an agreement on bilateral cooperation between their defence ministries. The document was updated in 2010.


Lithuanian and Romanian soldiers are training in exercises together, cooperate on military training, expert-level meetings take place. In 2007 the Romanian Air Force took part in the NAOT Air Policing Mission.
